Dr. Mason and her assistants volunteer with Dental Health Management Solutions, providing checkups for US soldiers twice a month on weekends.
In June 2009 I was contacted by a company that found me via my website and inquired if I would like to work as a Dentist but by helping with soldiers in the military! What they needed was a dentist to perform oral exams on soldiers in the military to determine if their teeth were healthy enough to be deployed for at least a year without having any dental problems!
So I agreed, and now it is a wonderful experience to go to different bases. To date my largest # of soldiers seen in one day is 107! The company wants us to spend only about 6min per soldier. One of the challenges is that the soldiers sit in a lawn chair and I use a miner's hat with a light to illuminate their mouths and disposable instruments. It is a very rewarding experience just knowing that I am giving back at least a little to them. These soldiers are totally volunteer and not a lottery .... we should be so thankful that this is each of their choices to protect our country !! The least I can do is be there to check there teeth!
The soldiers are so appreciative and it is just a rewarding day each time I do it! Now my dental assistant Libby now goes with me to assistant me in charting or taking their dental x-rays!
The government contracted with LHI (Logistic Health Inc) whom then sub contract to other companies to staff the events. DHMS (Dental Health Management Solutions) and ACC Dental Consultants!
We average a weekend or two per month! Libby and I really enjoy giving back to our troops!
